L: Could I please have a copy of your management structures (flow chart)?
K: Yes.
L: What is the name of your position?
K: Senior of the faculty offical and performing arts, technology studies and Physical Education.
L: How many people are you in charge of?
K: 16
L: To whom do you answer?
K: Assistant principle junior and senior school.
L: What are your responsibilities?
K: Student welfare, behaviour and management, programming, time-tabling, budgeting, management of facilities (look after that different areas, all the faculty have, maintain equipment), curriculum (what's in the courses, how the courses are made up).
L: How do you take into account when assigning tasks to your employees?
K: Their work clod (how much work people are doing already, how busy they are at work), capabilities (what people are good at doing), and the requirements of the job.
L: What do you expect from people you are in charge of?
K: To do their job, maintain a good work place (behaviour), good relationship with other people), not just do the bit of minimum, but could do a little bit of extra.
L: How do you encourage staff to work hard?
K: Praise/reconise for goos job that they do, get the principal to reconise if they get a good job.
L: What else do you do during your working hours?
K: Teach, manage people, budget, timetable, music consumbles.
L: Are you responsible for buying music instruments and maintaining them?
K: Yes (SSL's : refer to the last question).
L: Do you use some info tech equipment to assist your work? What kind? How do you use it to help you with your job?
K: Computer - budgeting, recording of assessment, keep in touch with people through email.
L: How many hours are you required to work?
K: 7 1/2 hours a day. (minimum requirement)
L: How much of your own time do you put into your work? How often do you work overtime?
K: I usually work at least 9 hours a day.
L: What is the most challenging part of you job?
K: Swap between lots of different tasks quite quickly (teaching, doing timetable. In mind), and being interrupted all the time...ha ha ha, i didn't mean you... ha ha i shouldn't say that... For example, a task should take me one hour to do it, but finally will end up with 3 hours...
L: What qualifications do you need to do for this job? Personality? Skills? Experience?
K: Qualification:degree in education, the chosen field of work (music), able to prove your expertise in your managing faculty; Personality: fairly calm, and handle stress; Skills: info tech, know there's department policys, teaching skills in your area...
L: How do you cope with working with such different faculties as you are in that position?
K: mmm... Get to know what the requirements of the others. Being flexible and find out sometimes, sometimes it's difficult...
L: what did you learn from this experience of working with them?
K: I like it, it's good fun... always got something different to do each day, so that lifetime doesn't get boring...
